Shade

Honestly, I don’t know whether it comes from low self-confidence, the way I was raised, or something else, but it’s very rare for me to work on a photo of myself, edit it, or even take a selfie. This piece is exactly one of those rare moments when I decided to create a work based on a personal portrait. The image was taken years ago by a photographer friend of mine, and I had always liked it. Some time later, during a casual web search, I came across a portrait of Leyla Milani, an Iranian-Canadian model, that felt visually and emotionally striking. I felt that combining her image with my own portrait could lead to an interesting and unconventional result. After several hours of editing and working in Photoshop, this piece finally took shape. Around 2023, I minted this work for an NFT event titled #TezPortraitDay, named the piece “Shade” and quite unexpectedly, 20 editions were sold. The work is currently available on the secondary market.
