Zahhak

Reimagining Persian mythology, this artwork explores Zahhak from Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh not as a simple villain, but as a deeply tragic figure. Initially resisting evil, he was ensnared by demonic deception, ultimately accepting his fate in dark, meditative stillness, as I sought to convey visually. The cold stone disc subverts classical holy halos, foretelling his eternal captivity, chained a thousand years later deep within a cave on Mount Damavand, locked in an endless cycle of self-inflicted torment. The shoulder serpents and snake like chain represent his inner demon and personal prison. In the center, an abstract calligraphic monogram spells "Zahhak" (ضحاک) in Persian/Arabic script. Mirroring the letter "Kāf" (ک) forms two facing serpents, while the full composition reveals a striking cobra head. The creation bridges Midjourney ideation with manual editing, digital painting, and custom vector calligraphy in Photoshop.
